This was simply an awesome post. I had to fire off emails to everyone I know in the process of prepping. Also, I took the Palo Alto course and Cliff really is the SC Method Man. I believe one time in class he said how him and his wife play this game where they compete to find the most grammar mistakes in the daily newspaper. Sure, that's probably not difficult when your paper is the San Jose Mercury News but still...Sentence Correction is a sport for that man.

I don't necessarily think you need to be worried, but EVERYTHING matters in your application: your GPA, your GMAT, your letters of recommendation, your admissions essays, your interview, etc. No single part of your application will render another part moot. Admissions officers will look at the entire package, no matter what.

hi,
you've described the admission challenges for a jd/mba in a comprehensive and insightful manner. i m looking for suggestions on similar lines for a jd/phd in management as i m already currently doing mba and researching for ways towards an academic or consulting career in business/ corporate law.
though it may seem out of context in regard of ur post, but would be great if you can offer some advice similar to what you did for jd/mba.
also, could you comment on how good is it an idea to go for what i m looking to get into.

You're right that 1 is not a prime factor, but the question was "How many unique factors does (number) have?"

For 24, those are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, and 24.

The unique PRIME factors of 24 are 2 and 3. Start with the above list, and just pull out the prime numbers.

Be careful... On the GMAT, make sure you know exactly what they're asking!

Yes, your GPA will always matter, no matter what GMAT score you get. There are no hard cutoffs or thresholds after which business schools don't look at your undergraduate GPA. However, if you had a low GPA, then a high GMAT score is one way to help mitigate its impact on your overall candidacy.

2012 Law School grads are gong to be as screwed, if not more so than ALL law school grads. There are too many lawyers and even people that graduated in the earlier years are suffering with low wages. Check out my blog and I have examples of how bad it has gotten for us.

I am right in the middle of the application process, with final essay polishing and rec. letters fups, and your posts series were incredibling interesting.

I could hardly wait for another post midway through the series, and would "devour" it as soon as it was posted (I even learned about RSS in order to be alerted :-).

Many blogs and tweets focus on the GMAT, or on appl. tips, but so few indeed cover the whole experience thoroughly.

I wish they hadn't ended. Hope you continue to write with insights from your first days / weeks/ semesters, so I can learn from your deep insights after I get (fingers crossed) admited !! :-)

I have been graduated for about a little over a year now. I pay about $1000/month b/c there is no consolidation anymore. I would absolutely be purchasing a house if I had no student loans. I bought a new car earlier this year, and I would be spending a lot more money if I didn't have such a large student loan burden. We are the population that holds the key to economic stimulation. We have the most necessity for purchasing houses and cars and establishing our lives on our own at this point. At this rate, I will be living at home until I am married, b/c I refuse to rent. Give it to the people who actually can make a difference! Or at least take SOME of it away from us...

The question has never been whether harvard is "going broke?" A simple subtraction of its liabilties from its assets would seem to suggest, no.

However, add the current finger-pointing, sense of alienation and inevitable hit to its self-esteem, and places with far less name recognition than Harvard's begin to come into play. I'm thinking of places like Wesleyan, with a fraction of Harvard's endowment, yet, able to face the future with something approaching confidence; William & Mary, a solid state university with none of Harvard's bells and whistles, but, enough history to give it a run for its money. And, Californians are starting to give Berkeley a second look; even in deep crisis, it can look Harvard right in the eye. Let's face it, without ample subsidies for the middle-class, Harvard is not much more of a bargain than Texas, Illinois, Virginia, Michigan or any number of other flagship state universities.

I have been begging for this to happen. I too pay $600 a month in school loans. I make pretty good money, but I can never buy a house or anything because I've had to charge stuff (I am a single mom) so now I owe a ton in credit cards too. I don't think I should get a free ride, but I'm also locked into a 7.25% loan because I was tricked into consolidating (another long story). I cannot get a lower rate. EVER. I will be paying my loan still when my daughter starts college. This thought just sickens me because I won't be able to help her. My school promised that 99% of their alumni got great paying jobs. Yea.. it took me literally 10 years to find a job (and I still don't even know if I'll have it next year in Q1) *sob*
