I'm thinking of places like Wesleyan, with a fraction of Harvard's endowment, yet, able to face the future with something approaching confidence; William & Mary, a solid state university with none of Harvard's bells and whistles, but, enough history to give it a run for its money. And, Californians are starting to give Berkeley a second look; even in deep crisis, it can look Harvard right in the eye. Let's face it, without ample subsidies for the middle-class, Harvard is not much more of a bargain than Texas, Illinois, Virginia, Michigan or any number of other flagship state universities.

I have been begging for this to happen. I make pretty good money, but I can never buy a house or anything because I've had to charge stuff (I am a single mom) so now I owe a ton in credit cards too. I don't think I should get a free ride, but I'm also locked into a 7.25% loan because I was tricked into consolidating (another long story). I cannot get a lower rate. EVER. I will be paying my loan still when my daughter starts college. This thought just sickens me because I won't be able to help her. My school promised that 99% of their alumni got great paying jobs. Yea.. it took me literally 10 years to find a job (and I still don't even know if I'll have it next year in Q1) *sob*

Looks great!
